Introduction Hampton is an independent city, in the Virginia Beach-Norfolk metro area located about 25 miles from Williamsburg and just 11 miles from Norfolk.
Located on the James River, the community was named for the Southampton (Hampton) River and covers a total area of 352.8 km² (136.2 mi²) of which 134.1 km² (51.8 mi²) of it is land and 218.7 km² (84.4 mi²) of it (61.99%) is water.
Hampton is nestled along the beautiful Chesapeake Bay and lined with miles of exquisite shoreline. Hampton has a distinct small-town feel with little traffic and modern facilities.
